Meet Merfi

Make time something your child can see.

Shoes on. Into the car. Out the door. The hardest moments of the day are the ones that pull a child away from where they are — and they always seem to arrive without warning. Merfi shows your child what's happening now, what's coming next, and how much time is left.

A comfort companion and app from Sensory Solutions. Nothing for your child to read.

Three Merfi plush companions — a frog, a bear, and a husky — sitting on the grass, each with a round screen built into its belly A soft companion that sits where your child can see it, with a friendly screen built right in.
What it is

A friendly face that shows the day.

Merfi is a soft companion with a round screen tucked into its front, paired with an app on your phone. You build the day in the app; Merfi shows it — one activity at a time, with a countdown your child can watch run down.

It sits out where your child can see it, in the room where the day actually happens. There's nothing to read, tap, or set up. They glance over and know how much longer they have.

  • A countdown they can see, instead of numbers on a clock
  • Something your child can look at and point to
  • You set the schedule from your phone; Merfi handles the rest

The screen sits right in the plush: what's happening now, and how long is left.

Soft, rounded, and easy to leave out — it belongs in the room, not in a drawer.
How it works

Three steps, then it runs itself.

1

Plan the day in the app

Add the moments that matter — getting out the door, the car ride, drop-off and pickup, plus the everyday ones like snack, bath, and bed. Set them to repeat, or adjust on the fly.

2

Merfi counts it down

The screen shows the current activity and a ring that empties as time runs out, with a gentle "Get ready!" before each change — on screen and out loud, so it lands whether or not your child is looking.

3

You both see it coming

"Time to go" stops being a surprise — for your child, and for you. Merfi is out where you'll both notice it, so the warning gets given.

In the app

You build the day. Merfi runs it.

The app is where the schedule lives. Add an activity, set how long it lasts, choose which plush it goes to — and then put your phone away.

See the whole dayEvery activity on one timeline, with a marker showing where you are right now. Tap + to add something new.

Add an activity in secondsName it, pick how long it lasts, and mark whether it's something your child looks forward to or dreads.
The Merfi app showing alerts set for 5, 10 and 15 minutes before the end, a device picker, and weekday repeat options
Set the warnings, then send itChoose when the "get ready" alerts fire, repeat the routine on the days you need, and sync it straight to the plush.

Have more than one Merfi? Each schedule can go to whichever plush you choose — so home and school can run on different days.

Why it helps

Transitions are hard because time is invisible.

A transition is any moment your child has to stop one thing and start another — screen off and shoes on, play to car, home to somewhere else. Young children don't feel minutes the way adults do, so "five more minutes" is an abstraction, and the end of an activity lands as a surprise. Surprise is what tips a good moment into a hard one. Merfi makes time visible, so the ending is something your child watches coming.

Fewer battles

When a child can watch time run out, "time to go" stops being a shock and starts being something they saw coming.

Something to point at

The warning doesn't only come from you. It's there on the screen, in the room, where your child can look at it and check for themselves.

A backup for you

The schedule runs on its own once you've set it, so the warning still happens on a busy morning. It's as much a prompt for you as it is for your child.

Merfi came out of work with children who find transitions especially hard — including children who aren't reading yet, or who take the world in visually more than verbally. If you already give the warnings and you're not sure they're landing, that's the gap Merfi is built to fill. Visible time helps almost any child, but that's where it helps most.

For professionals

Want to work with us?

We partner with schools, autism therapy clinics, and other professionals supporting children who struggle with transitions — particularly children who respond better to something they can see than to something they're told. If you'd like to run a pilot, tell us a little about your team and we'll be in touch.
